a. Diarrhoea is defined as change in bowel pattern often with frequent loose stools.

b. Breast-fed infant may normally pass frequent loose stools and as there is no change in bowel pattern, it would not be considered as diarrhoea.

c. Detailed history helps to define of diarrhoea. Large volume of watery stools in a well -nourished child us due to viral infection and needs no drugs except replacing losses with ORS.

d. Zinc helps in fast improvement. Small volume of stools with mucus and / or blood denotes bacterial infection and would need antibiotic.

e. There is no need to change diet or withdraw mil in case of diarrhoea. It is only in chronic diarrhoea that diet may need modification.
